The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a proactive, collaborative, and driven Development Manager to join our high-performing Development team in Queensland.

In this key role, you will take ownership of the early development phase, specifically coordinating civil and infrastructure design and planning approvals. Working closely with our Planning, Delivery, and New Business teams, you will actively pursue innovative and efficient outcomes for estate design and delivery. Operating with a high level of initiative, you will manage consultant engagements, coordinate with authorities, and champion FPI’s strategic design objectives to maximise business margins and mitigate development risks.

What you’ll do

  • Estate Design & Coordination: Identify constraints and opportunities during planning and acquisition. Lead civil concept designs to deliver efficient outcomes for industrial lots and estates. Partner with FPI architects, cost planners, and delivery teams to ensure a seamless design handover.
  • New Business & Feasibility Support: Provide timely site design inputs to the New Business team. Assist in detailed feasibility and financial analysis, help draft Investment Committee and Board Papers, and collaborate with Development Analysts to finalise budgets and profit forecasting.
  • Authority Liaison & Approvals: Partner with the Planning Manager to prepare comprehensive planning applications. Directly engage with relevant authorities to secure infrastructure approvals, ensuring all strategies align with FPI’s Quality, Safety, and Premium Estates Guidelines.
  • Acquisition Analysis: Support the Acquisition Manager by reviewing site information for prospective property acquisitions, actively identifying and mitigating risks related to civil engineering and infrastructure design.
  • Stakeholder Management & Joint Ventures: Manage Joint Venture relationships and associated reporting. Maintain open, transparent reporting to FPI stakeholders regarding program status, financial exposures, development risks, and milestone approvals.
  • Administration & Compliance: Oversee consultant and authority engagements, including evaluating commercial and legal terms. Maintain meticulous records of design documentation, correspondence, and project meetings.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience: Proven experience in the property development industry, with a strong background in civil engineering, civil design, and managing complex infrastructure projects.
  • Planning Expertise: A solid understanding of development planning processes and practical experience dealing with government and utility authorities.
  • Qualifications: A relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Property Development, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Technical & Commercial Savvy: Proficient in project design/engineering software and MS Office. You possess strong commercial acumen with a clear understanding of financial feasibilities and project delivery budgets.
  • Forward-Thinking Mindset: A demonstrated ability or willingness to leverage modern AI tools to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and drive strategic insights.
  • Attributes: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You are highly collaborative, act with a high degree of integrity and honesty, and are eager to share innovative ideas within a team environment.
